Butterfly Sanctuary
Since MEV started, volunteers have learned that the most strategic way to save monarchs is not through indoor raising but rather by protecting and increasing their natural habitats and eliminating the use of pesticides. Considering that volunteers built a small butterfly sanctuary in front of a Pilsen residence. Following the same idea, a larger sanctuary was built in the back of the residence, which allows visitors to enter and responsibly engage in the ecosystem.
With the help of renowned Pilsen artist Héctor Duarte, art has been integrated by adding murals in front of the residence and garage. The murals depict multiple butterflies flying out into the horizon. Community residents and other volunteers from different age groups helped with both. Contributing to the neighborhood's rich artistic culture.
